The Government-funded One-to-One Tuition Programme has been created to provide additional support in Mathematics and/or English for children who are not currently reaching their potential. It has been set up to be delivered alongside classroom teaching as extra help for pupils.

While mainstream classroom teaching is effective for many pupils, we know that there are some who will not make the progress they need to in a whole-class setting. These pupils would benefit from additional tuition, on a one-to-one basis, that addresses their particular skills gaps. We believe that a more individualised approach will help this group of pupils to make the progress they need to catch up and reach national expectations.

Each pupil will receive 10 hours of One-to-One Tuition. There will also be two hours per child allowed for planning/liaison time with the pupil’s teacher. There are no set numbers of pupils or working hours - each school has the flexibility to decide, in liaison with the tutor, class teacher and parents, how many pupils require tuition and the timing of the tutoring.
